View Full Version : xat slide show - monster temp file - hangs up

June 24th, 2003, 08:41 PM
I am getting EXTREMELY frustrated trying to create a VCD of my
recent trip to Disney World. If I leave out all music files, it
works, but as soon as I add some background music, it goes into
orbit. It seems to hang up - creating an ever larger temp file (up
to 4 gigabytes) then pops up a message saying my disk is full -
which is not true - I have over 100 GB available. Then when I click
OK on the error message, I have to abort and all is lost.

What the heck is going on? I have tried both wav and mp3 files with
the same problem. Someone please help!!

I just want a simple menu with multiple slide shows with background
music. Is there another program that will do this with good picture
quality on a large screen TV set?

Hello Gus

I know it is extremly frustrating but the program will work but I
havn't had that problem - note you can only use a mp3 sound track
you should have had an error with the wav file ( unless things have
changed ).

All I can sudgest is try a very small show with a couple of pictures
and a short sound track to see if you can get that to work. Are you
using transitions as that can eat up memory etc.

Also save your project before creating it as you should be able to
get it back.

Before trying Xatshow I must have tried 4 or 5 other programs and I
can say the best quility picture was with Xatshow by a very long way
in one case.

Regards Anthony

Hi Chris,

I responded to your post on the forum. Here is my ".xats" file. I appreciat
e any help you can provide.

I had this exact problem. It was because the MP3 I had didn't have all the
exact right header information or something like that. I down loaded the
latest beta and that fixed it.

Have you got a long time interval set?

How many pictures have you got and what length of music?

Can you send me your settings?

Press the save button and send me the .xats file?

Chris.

Here is the original info. I know the beta has some of it's own problems -
but none of them have affected me thus far.

Thanks - maybe there is hope! When you say you downloaded the latest
beta and that fixed it - latest beta of what? The XATSHOW or your
mp3 converter? I have version 5.02 of XATSHOW which is the purchased
version. Is there a newer beta I can try - if so where is it?

Thanks, Chris for responding. On time interval, I have it set for 5
seconds. When there is NO background music I turn "Spaced to Music"
off. Here is what I have:

Main Menu: Background picture, mp3 song 159 sec long.
SS#1: 18 pictures, mp3 song 215 sec (12 sec/pic)
SS#2: 24 pictures, mp3 song 182 sec (7.6 sec/pic)
SS#3: 46 pictures, mp3 song 249 sec (5.4 sec/pic)
SS#4: 64 pictures, mp3 song #1 148 sec, mp3 song #2 203 sec
for a total of 351 sec (5.5 sec/pic)

Settings are:
Slide Duration 5 sec
NTSC
Crop images to fit (images are full 2272x1704 from Canon G3)
Apply Anti-Filter OFF
Reduce image to fit TV 6%
Each slide show set to Customize this slide show with
Crop images to fit
Run Slideshow once
Spaced to music length

I will attempt to send you the ".xats" file by e-mail - don't see a
way to attach it here.

Darwin is probably right, 5.1 should fix it.

Here is the latest version:

Chris.

Interesting. I followed the rules - downloaded the trial version
(which does NOT support VCD creation), then bought the full version,
which is 5.02 and the one I am having problems with. I will download
the beta and certainly try it. Thanks!

OK, I installed 5.1 and did the create - which ran all the way with
no indicated errors. When I play it in my DVD player, the main menu
looks good with background music playing. But when I select any of
the 4 slide shows, the background music is NOT there and the
pictures advance in an erratic way - first picture stays on for a
long time, like 10 sec, then next picture stays on very short, less
than 1 sec, etc. I rechecked all my settings and all slide shows are
set to "Spaced to music length". Now what do I do?

This is without transistions. I don't think it is the DVD player. I have cr
eated a number of VCDs with this program as well as several other programs
and they all play. My DVD player is the high-end Sony DVP-NS700P. Most of m
y friends have cheap DVD players that do not even support VCDs. I will expe
riment some more with different arrangements but it is taking too much time
. I created a VCD with exactly the same pictures and songs on Ulead PS2 and
it plays fine, although I don't think the picture quality is as good as XA
TShow.

Is this with or without transitions?

Can you try it on another DVD player?

Hello, I don't think price comes into it, I have a pretty cheap one but it
plays anything from all regions and much more. Some of my friends with more
expensive ones it leaves standing, and the quality is very good.
