Finally got the right combo of codex and program settings. Your tip helped. Also, I had a later version of the lame_enc.dll codex from other experiments so I substituted it (V1.32, engine 3.93 MMX). When I convert a WAV file to MPEG I, 128 kbps min. bitrate, auto output sample rate, I get output Xatshow likes. Happy camper again.
